Organic Community Garden

Our Organic Community Garden, established in 2017 and continually supported through the +Fresh Gardens & Growing Fund!

The garden is situated on a private piece of property in Cherryville, BC where the owner’s plant, oversee and manage the garden. In 2018 a second area was initiated to double the size of the garden which yielded 1545 lbs of organic produce! We were able to offer fresh, organic produce every week for the entire growing season. More than 20 families, 65 people, were influenced by the organic garden in 2018. Planters with pre-planted lettuce, strawberries and herbs were also provided to recipients of the Cherryville Food Bank. This allowed households to grow a portion of their own food, it was highly successful with lots of positive feedback from those who received them.

In 2019, our garden produced 1963 lbs of organic produce which again went right back into the hands of our community members! Cannot wait to see what happens in 2020!

Thank You Food Banks CanadaThank You Food Banks Canada

In March, 2025 we received $15,000 from Food Banks Canada through the Emergency Food Action grant. With a 20% increase in Cherryville households in need of monthly hampers since 2022, our capacity to support the consistent demand has been difficult. This past January-March were particularly difficult months as we had significantly less food donations available over these months and our hamper quantity and quality were compromised. When our Food Bank Floor Manager was asked why there was such a decrease in available food donations over these months, he thoughtfully pondered the impact of the imposing tariffs on our food systems. Despite the unsettling economic and political climate this past year, we were incredibly blessed to be a recipient of the Emergency Food Action grant. Due to these funds to purchase food, we were able to replenish our much needed staple items including healthy perishable items from March-June which directly benefited our local families and households in need.

It was heartwarming to have so many people attend our 15 Year Celebration Event on Saturday, August 9th, 2025. This year marks 15 years since our inauguration and wow has our organization grown! From a few key people with no space but a heart to feed families to a multi-service organization with a beautiful Food Bank and Resource Center building open to the public Monday-Thursday, 8:00-3:00. Thank you to all the incredible community partners who came out to represent their organizations and the wonderful work they are doing in the Cherryville community. A special thanks to Nick Johnson from Food Banks BC who bestowed the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal to president and founder of Cherryville Community Food & Resource Society, Sharon Harvey.

New Freezer Door!New Freezer Door!

Thanks to Food Banks Canada, we now have a freezer safe door installed to safely store all of our perishable items. Our freezer has on average 1500-3000lbs of frozen food that is distributed to Cherryville residents through monthly hampers and food security programs. We are so grateful to have this new door installed because we no longer have to worry about losing any perishable items due to inadequate equipment. Thank you again Food Banks Canada, we are absolutely thrilled with our new door!
