Resource Center

Call or Drop-In at the Cherryville Community Resource Center Monday – Thursday 8:00am – 3:00pm! An outreach worker is available to offer various information and supports including:

  • Recreation and socializing activities
  • Food security
  • Support with pension applications and other forms such as Fair Pharmacare
  • Application Support including disability, benefits, child tax credits, home-owners grant, and more
  • Subsidized housing and SAFER (Shelter Aid For Elderly Renters) applications
  • Navigating health care systems, advanced care planning, end-of-life
  • Resources to health, dental, legal and other
  • Free Income Tax Clinic
  • And more!

Senior Services and Persons with Disabilities

Meal Program: Any older adult residing in Cherryville area who is 65 or older, or anyone 50+ who is living with a disability, can purchase a pre-made meal for $5.00. Fresh meals can be picked up the same day as they are made, otherwise all meals are frozen and can be picked up at a later date. Meals are made and distributed on the second Saturday of each month. All proceeds go back into the program. 

Transportation: Older adults residing in Cherryville area can request transportation services. Requests are filled based on driver capacity. To request a ride, contact Amanda Derdau at 250-547-0089. Please note: transportation is ONLY provided for important medical appointments and/or monthly grocery shopping. Fee: $35.00 to Vernon and back; $20.00 to Lumby and back; $10.00 within 10km. If finances are a concern, please reach out to inquire about our subsidy options.

Friendly Visiting: The mission of this program is to reduce social isolation and loneliness by keeping Cherryville older adults connected. Volunteers coordinate directly with older adults to determine days and times that work for either a home visit or social call! The Cherryville Express: This service is available to older adults 55+, adults with disabilities and to people who do not have access to other forms of transportation due to social, financial or practical issues. Trips are scheduled twice per month to The Real Canadian Superstore and Walmart. The Cherryville Express has 12 seats with 4 spots for wheelchairs. There is 1 staff member and 1 volunteer to help assist passengers however all passengers must be independent physically and cognitively (with support of mobility aids if required) as our staff are not equipped to provide any personal care. $20 per seat. We have now created an option to order groceries online for days the Cherryville Express goes to Vernon, this option is only available to older adults and persons living with disabilities.

Family & Youth Programs

The Cherryville Community Food & Resource Society is happy to offer a variety of programs geared towards Family and Youth in Cherryville.

Recreational Sports: includes soccer, t-ball, softball, and ice programs. Typically 2 age categories; ages 4-6 and 7-12. Registration first open to Cherryville residents and then open to surrounding areas if spots available. Soccer typically starts end of April and T-ball/Soft-Ball start up in September. Ice sports dependent on weather. 

Arts & Culture: afterschool Arts & Culture classes offered from September-May of each year. Classes differ year to year and are offered according to age, typically on Tuesdays, afterschool until 4:30pm.

Education Workshops: CCFRS hosts educational and training workshops including the Baby Sitting Course and Home Alone Course. Classes are run typically once per year, depending on community interest. 

Summer Day Camp: CCFRS has offered summer day camp to Cherryville families as a summer child care resource. However, due to lack of interest we have closed this program until further notice.  

 

Employment/Volunteer Opportunities

We often have summer job opportunities for local youth to work at either our Community Garden, Food Bank, or Resource Center. We are also committed to providing job opportunities for Cherryville residents as we believe in the value of local work. We post job opportunities on our social medial platforms including this website, Facebook, and in our monthly newsletters. Make sure you follow us to stay informed of potential opportunities for both volunteer and or paid work!
